Endangered Species and Viagra

The traffic of endangered species is unfortunately not completely eradicated nowadays but some solutions have appeared in order to try to solve this alarming issue. An unexpected factor that according to scientist like Dr. Frank Von Hippel is helping the fight against hunting of endangered animals for traditional Chinese medicine is the sell of the anti impotence drug Viagra.

The use of this medical drug has made an effect specially on the Asiatic countries were the traffic of endangered species is used to supposedly cure impotence. Animal parts like dried seahorses or crushed rhino horns are offered traditionally in the black market to cure the condition.

A research shows that the trade in the velvet covering of reindeer antlers fell by 72 per cent from 1997 to 1998. This was the sharpest annual drop in nearly 30 years. Also according to Frank Von Hippel, a biologist at the University of Alaska in Anchorage, the sale of the penises of Canadian hooded and harp seals fell by half between 1996 and 1998.

This phenomenon is happening because medication like Generic Viagra is obviously cheaper than buying the animal parts on the black market, and though the east Asiatic population is typically suspicious of Western medical products, the difference with Viagra is that the effect is so immediate and visible that they don't have a choice but to trust.

These are great news for animal activist and conservationists, and it's a huge step on the path of protecting these endangered species as the use of the drug Viagra is helping so much on a really unexpected way to preserve and lower so much the traffic rate on the black market of these exotic animals and the rate is lowering every year more and more.
