Tidal Energy for Sustainable Development

Sustainable development is certainly the way further for a sustainable world. Climate change and global warming as well as all the pollution that is nowadays harming the planet have been the subject of intensive political and economical debate for the last few decades. People are now starting to see that the humankind needs to change its attitude towards the environment and towards the planet. While every individual is advised to take matters into his own hands, specialists are developing new ways to use renewable natural resources to spare the planet from the harm that it has been subjected to for some centuries now. Here one can learn more about the tidal energy and how this alternative way of producing energy can prevent climate change and promote sustainable development.

Tidal energy is a form of hydro energy or hydropower which transforms the energy of tides into forms of power. The most commonly extracted form of power until now has been electricity. The potential of the tidal energy has been exploited for the first time by the United States in mid 1920s and ever since technology has been developed in order to find ways to better capture the power that can be extracted from tides. It is however thought that tidal mills have been used by people ever since the ancient times in order to get the energy that they needed. Nowadays the mills are much more sophisticated and much more capable. Yet, there are several disadvantages to using this type of energy for sustainable development and one of the most important one is its availability. Tidal energy is available on limited parts of the world and it is also often too expensive to be exploited at its full potential. However, tidal energy can be one of the answers to the need for a sustainable world.
